A standard solder install — done right
The Switch Lite takes a PicoFly RP2040 modchip with a standard solder install. There's no Kamikaze method and no DAT0 trace scraping here — those belong to the OLED. The Lite's data points are reachable directly, so the technician solders the chip in place the conventional way.
What makes the Lite a step up from the original V1/V2 isn't a special technique — it's the real estate. The Lite packs everything into a smaller, tighter shell, so there's less room to work and components sit closer together. It's squarely a moderate job: harder than a V1/V2, but well short of the OLED's specialized trace work. For you, that means a proven install at a lower starting price than the OLED, with the same testing and warranty.
Every Lite is opened, the chip installed and soldered, then fully reassembled, reseated, and tested before it ships back.
Which chip goes in a Switch Lite?
One chip, no guesswork. The Lite is installed with the PicoFly RP2040 only — the INSTINCT-NX and the OLED's Kamikaze method don't apply here.
PicoFly RP2040
The proven, widely used open-source RP2040-based modchip — installed as a clean, standard solder job on the Lite. It's the same dependable chip family we fit on the original V1/V2.
A modchip is a hardware mod. It works independently of your Lite's system firmware version, so there's nothing to update or downgrade before you send it in.
How the Lite compares
The Lite sits in the middle of the difficulty ladder — a standard solder install that's tougher than the original V1/V2 because of its compact build, but easier than the OLED, which needs the Kamikaze method. Here's the full picture.
| Model | Install method | Chip(s) | Difficulty | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Switch V1 / V2 | Solder install — two capacitors | PicoFly RP2040 | Easiest | $89.98 |
| Switch Lite You're here | Standard solder install | PicoFly RP2040 | Moderate | $94.99 |
| Switch OLED | Kamikaze method — DAT0 trace | INSTINCT-NX or PicoFly RP2040 | Hardest | $119.99 |

Switch Lite modchip FAQ
Can the Nintendo Switch Lite be modded?
Yes. The Switch Lite takes a PicoFly RP2040 modchip via a standard solder install. It's a fully supported mod — the Lite just needs the right hands, because its compact board leaves less room to work than a full-size Switch.
Which chip do you install on a Switch Lite?
The PicoFly RP2040 — and only the PicoFly RP2040. The INSTINCT-NX and the OLED's Kamikaze method don't apply to the Lite; it's a clean, standard solder install.
Is the Lite harder to mod than a regular Switch?
A little. The Lite is harder than the original V1/V2 because of its tighter internal layout, but it's easier than the OLED — it doesn't need the Kamikaze method or any DAT0 trace scraping. That puts it in the moderate middle of our difficulty ladder.
Does my Lite's firmware version matter?
No. The modchip is a hardware mod that works independently of firmware. Whatever version your Lite is on, it doesn't change the install — there's nothing to update or downgrade beforehand.
Turnaround, warranty, and return shipping?
Turnaround is typically 24–48 hours once your Lite arrives, with a 180-day warranty and free return shipping. You pay only after the install is finished.
Do you need my SD card or account?
No — hardware only. Leave your SD card and keep your account details; we don't need either to install your modchip.
My Lite was already opened or attempted elsewhere — can you fix or finish it?
Sometimes, but a previous attempt can affect what's needed. Get in touch before shipping so we can review the board's condition first — start by contacting us.
